Answer

Zero-calorie fake-sugar beverages like Diet Coke and Coke Zero cause a real insulin response in the body. It’s not the same degree of response as a real sugared beverage might cause (ISTR that it’s around 1/3 as big of a response) but it is real. Since part of the point of IF is to limit that insulin response, my understanding is that those things should be avoided.

Answer

Depends.

It may trigger an insule response in your body, break your fast and reset some benefits of IF. It may also make you hungry and make fasting harder than necessary. And of course it’s not that healthy for your body, especially teeth.

But sometimes it also helps me a lot to push through my fast. I‘d rather cheat a little if it helps me keeping intermittend fasting in the long run, than doing in the right way and quitting after a few weeks. But that’s just me, you gotta find out what works for you.

Answer

Technically you should be safe, though I did read an article recently on “sugary tasting” drinks that are 0 calories that said when you eat/drink something that tastes sweet it tricks your brain into thinking that you are consuming something that needs to be broken down. So even if coke zero is 0 calories, since it tastes sweet your brain might trigger an insulin response, which would break your fast. I’ll try to find where I read that and cite it for you but I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

Answer

Depends on what you fasting goals are. Might not break weight loss ketosis, but could derail autophagy. That’s why there are so many different types of fasts. Artificial sweeteners are…controversial.

Answer

You’re going to do what you’re going to do by the sounds of it. It’s not a great idea because of the side effects and affect on tolerances but it sounds like you have your mind made up regardless and am just looking for confirmation.

I’m aware there’s purists here, but no need to downvote. I’m finding ways to make 16/8 sustainable for me for the rest of my life. I’m not looking for a quick fix or lifestyle I can’t maintain. And I’m a realist, there are days black coffee doesn’t fit and I need a ‘cheat’ for my own sanity/humanity. Lol 😆

Enjoy your process whatever it is, for me I’m still happy with where things are headed.
