Confused about weight and fasting

So I fasted four days and dropped from 131.5 to 126. Had a two days of eating and hung out between 125-127. Okay. Water retention, salt etc. sure. Fasted three more days. Dropped to 123. I was ravenous. I ate at maintenance meaning for a petite female I usually don’t eat over 1,300 cals. First day I ate 1,100, second day I went over and if I round up since I probably underestimated I think I ate 1,500 cals. Day three I was going to roll into my next fast but was still so hungry. So I ate and it was back to about 1,100. Today, I’ve had 1,050. For some reason my weight is back to 130lbs. What happened? How did i regain so much? Did I really just lose 7 lbs of water weight to begin with? Could that explain it? I feel so frustrated and demotivated now.

Answer

You fasted four days. Lets say your maintenance calories per day is 1300. This means only 1.5 pounds burned (1300 * 4 / 3500).

Then 3 more days fasted, 1 more pound. Total 2.5 pounds.

That’s quite small, and daily fluctuations and water retention can easily cover 2.5 pounds.

So, don’t get discouraged. It will occur.

It’s a lot easier if you do a keto diet, but not necessary.

Answer

I’m a similar size to you. Fast 3-4 days a week and eat between 1,000-1,500 calories on my eating days (try to keep it below 1200).

One thing I haven’t seen mentioned is bowels. You’re not eating, your body isn’t making solid waste. You start eating again, your bowels fill back up.
