daily nut amounts?

Hi all, wondering if people agree that 30g a day of nuts is a healthy amount, as expressed by some studies. That would roughly the below amounts for each type individually, not all of them in one day. What do you think? Would it be mix them up and perhaps weigh them?

Answer

Aside from Brazil nuts, the main reason to limit nut intake is because they’re very calorific. Secondary would be that they have a decent amount of fiber and too many could cause gut issues. But if those things aren’t a concern, nuts are a great way to get a bunch of macros and micros. I wouldn’t recommend eating a full pound of nuts, but I don’t think you need to limit to 30g either.

Answer

Limit Brazil nut to 1 per day just to be on the safe side. Brazil nut is really high in selenium.
For other nuts, you can go crazy about them. The 30g a day is suggested based on the appearance that nuts contain highest calorie in the plant kingdom. HOWEVER, nuts consumption has not been shown to be associated with obesity. In fact nut consumption is linked with improved health. It is thought that nut is actually much less digestible, so one gets less calorie from it than on the paper value. Nut is rich in fiber, fat and protein, the holy grail of satiety. So the more nuts you consume, the less unhealthy animal products you will consume. You end up taking in less calorie and become healthier
