Fasting and surgery

I’m a current cancer patient, and despite what you hear about chemo patients losing weight, I ended up gaining while on chemo. Probably closing in on 30 pounds. I was overweight to begin with so now I’m around my highest weight ever. I’m getting close to my last round in early February and will have a major surgery about a month later. Before my diagnosis in 2020 I had been very happy with the results of fasting and was mixing OMAD with some extended fasts.

I plan on fasting as much as possible for the month leading up to the surgery but my question is about post surgery recovery. It’s a fairly major incision along my abdomen. I’ll have to do a lot of physical therapy. Has anyone continued fasting through post surgery PT? Should I wait until I’m fully recovered? Just looking for some advice. I will of course talk to my doctor but am looking for some advice from y’all.

Answer

I’m sure you’ll need calories and much protein after this major surgery. Why risk it? You can always fast after you’ve recovered. Maybe you should focus on stopping the current weight gain more for now?
