Fasting around your menstrual cycle?

For all the fasting women out there do you ever fast around your cycle ? I’ve been hearing a lot of stuff lately. Like you shouldn’t fast past day 20 of your cycle… and you should structure fasts around your hormones. I’m also worried about all this stuff coming out about how fasting can be bad for fertile women. That study on rats where their ovaries shrink after an extended fast is also alarming!

Would just enjoy hearing testimony from female fasters that still have a cycle!

I finished my period today and started fasting 2 days ago. I feel fine but also I have done an extended fast before (I wasn’t in my period) but I didn’t think about when I started. To me the benefits have been great and I don’t see it as an issue just because it has never been an issue for me, the bleeding was lighter in general but it was actually improvement from my previous type of bleeding. My skin was the best it had ever been too and normally I’d get hormonal acne. Everyone’s different but my body is healthy and I don’t have any fertility issues or other issues so I believe I am fine to fast whenever I like as long as it’s done safely and I’m in the correct mental state. I’m mainly doing it for health benefits rather than to lose weight.

How long was the extended fast in the rats? Do they have the same kind of cycle as humans? Dogs don’t, I know nothing about rat periods lol. Rats live for what, 3-5 years? That’s a big difference to humans. If they starve rats for ten days, how long would that be in human terms?

I know that women who repeatedly eat too little can cause issues with their cycle, the same as overweight women can often have issues with it. I suspect that women who are fasting a lot will cause themselves hormone issues. And that doctor is mostly working with women who are desperate for weightloss.

I ate carnivore for 8 months, which is not fasting but is basically keto, and my periods were absolutely fine through it, and that doctor you mentioned highly recommends doing no fasting and coming out of ketosis the week before the period starts. I was frequently doing if and was zero carb, and like I said had no issues.

Answer

Supposedly you’re more open to stress the week before and that isn’t good. But I would argue if you’re not stressed while you’re fasting what’s the issue? I wouldn’t listen to me though my hormones are a little out of whack
