Frustrated with ketosis numbers

Backstory: been back and forth between keto and carnivore for years, but continued to drink wine nightly. Last week I dropped the wine, went back to carnivore strictly, still drinking a gallon of water a day (don’t say this is too much, I own a farm, I work constantly, I drink when thirsty), my carb intake is approx 3 to 5 daily due to eggs and some cheese, and I IF 18:6. I also work out daily before I break my fast.

I’ve so far lost 5.6 pounds in the last week. I’m happy with that. But I have a blood glucose monitor I can also check ketones with. I absolutely cannot get above 0.4! I test in the morning and before I break my fat. Mornings are usually 0.2 to 0.3, and after my workout I see 0.4. I just feel I could be doing even more than the 5.6 pounds if I was in a higher state of ketosis. I really want to increase this and I’m not in a position to do an extended fast until 2 weeks from now, at which point I plan a 3 or 5 days fast.

Any ideas on ways to naturally increase? Please don’t tell me to take a supplement with ketones in it. I need my body to be doing this, not a pill.

Answer

I’ve done a three day water fast and then measured my ketones at .5, while my wife has measured 1.0 13 or 14hrs after her last meal — I don’t think it really matters how deep you are in it as far as weight loss is concerned. If you had other diagnoses that you were trying to remedy with a therapeutic ketogenic diet then yeah I believe you want a higher number, otherwise…meh.
