Halfway through a 10 Day Fast - Worried about Gallstones

M25 5’10” SW: 253 CW: 243 GW: 185

After some recent negative life events, I’m determined to change my life and my health around. I’ve dabbled in some 2-3 day fasts here and there over the last year, but now have a plan in place and am attempting to pull off my first 10 day fast. I’m already down 10 lbs (assuming a lot of water weight).

I’ve been reading a lot lately on how rapid weight loss and fasting can cause gallstones. I come from a family with a history of gallbladder issues so, naturally I’m a bit concerned.

What steps can I take to minimize the risk of getting gallstones despite my rapid weight loss and prolonged fasting? Other than my daily electrolytes, I’ve also been taking a tablespoon of ACV with water each morning. Do you have any other suggestions?

Answer

I recommend adding fresh lemon juice to your water. A lemon has 12 calories so it doesn’t break fast. Also you can take bile stimulating supplement that is tailored for gallbladder support during fasting. Higher bile will reduce likelihood of stones.
