Basically just wondering if there’s much difference between eating some shitty frozen chicken strips and oven chips from Tesco or something vs nuggets and fries from McDonald’s, in terms of the additives and all that stuff.
I would say worse. Typically additives start becoming an issue. As close as you can get to actual chicken with no breading would be best. A cheap brand with little breading and additives? Probably better than McD’s. A cheap brand with tons of additives and fats? Eh.. You’re getting closer to McD’s territory but depending on how you cook them (airfrier v baking v frying) you can maybe still be nutritious. Cheap chicken deep fried with lots of breading and butters and fats?? It’s probably a toss up between the two.
Both frozen chicken strips and nuggets from fast-food restaurants like McDonald’s contain additives and preservatives to enhance flavour and extend shelf life. However, the specific ingredients and amounts may vary between different brands and products.
When it comes to frozen chicken strips and oven chips from supermarkets, some may be made with whole foods and have fewer additives, while others may contain more preservatives and artificial flavours. It’s important to check the ingredients list and nutritional information of the specific product you’re buying to make an informed decision.
On the other hand, fast-food restaurants like McDonald’s have come under scrutiny for the high levels of sodium, saturated fat, and added sugars in their menu items. They also use a lot of processed ingredients, such as chicken parts that are blended together and shaped into nuggets.

The fries are one of the worst things you can get. The fries contain more calories and saturated fat then the nuggets with not much extra nutrition. I would personally look for grilled rather than breaded and skip the sauce but nuggets are not horrific.
Assuming you are putting the chips in the oven then they should be much better then McDonald’s fries, strips will be better then nuggets too. It’s hard for something deep fried to beat something oven baked. Assuming you mean chips in real English not chips in American English.
Keep an eye on your portion sizes. 1/4 of your plate should be starches & grains, 1/4 lean protein and 1/2 vegetables. If you grab a bag of frozen peas & carrots with the chicken and chips you would have a decent meal.
IMHO I have yet to encounter a bag of chips that I couldn’t make better myself in very little time. Roasties in duck fat > frozen chips.
