Is fasting for multiple weeks dangerous?

I’m doing IF where I’m doing a two day water fast followed by around three days of eating at only set times but a close friend is fasting for several weeks and I want to know if that sort of fast is safe.

While I can’t deny the results he’s been having (losing around 30lbs since Christmas), it seems to be pretty unhealthy, if not dangerous to lose so much weight so fast and to also put his body through so much stress.

This doesn’t answer the question but It has me wondering.. In intermittent fasting, is the intermittent part not the hours between days you don’t eat - not additional days without food?

If someone says that they are doing IF is this usually 5 days say 16:8, then two days of No food at all?

Find myself a bit confused seeing some posts. This is a different type of fasting, where OPs friend is doing no solid food at all for weeks is it?

Hope that makes sense!

Answer

Not really an IF question. And, if I’m being honest, not really a ‘random Reddit stranger’ question, period.

Extended, multi-week fasts CAN be done safely, but generally shouldn’t be attempted without close medical supervision.

For more information, you might post this In r/fasting. But, as mentioned before, this really isn’t a ‘go-ahead-and-trust-the-medical-advice-of-random-Internet-dumbasses’ type of question.
