I don’t know if anyone has the answer to this but im starting a 4 day fast because ive been living with a chronic condition for a couple months now and I heard fasting is good for healing. Ive noticed that weed helps with pain sometimes and i was wondering if it would hinder the fast.
There are some strains that are actual appetite suppressants. Specifically ones with THC-V in them. I think it’s a terpene? I’m not an expert on it, but there’s research being put into cannabis variants for weight loss and appetite control.
Edit: it’s a cannabinoid, not a terpene.
I partake of weed the entire time I fast. It may make it harder for you but I just have a seltzer and some flake salt ready for when the sharp wave of the munchies briefly rolls over me. Hydrate and salt. All good!
I have smoked weed or delta 8 on EVERY extended fast I’ve ever done and it’s really the only thing that makes it bearable for me. Munchies have never been a problem for me, I feel like I get immense mental and physical benefits from these fasts while smoking. Never once have I felt like weed was harming my fast and helps me keep the mental state required to abstain from food or water and food.
I started down this path due to bulging disk and nerve pain in my back. Idk about stem cells, but usually around day 5 the body releases natural cortisol helping with inflammation.
I have my medical card. Smoking helps for many reasons. I smoke during my fasts as I find in addition to its other benefits, after having munchies and continuing to fast through it mentally prepares me for any other bad cravings that arise during re feed. Also helps establishing new healthier cravings after.
I do it from the very start. Currently on day 12 - I usually take my acv + baking soda and than lemon juice shot than vape some bud. (Not the cartridges - I like to use flower) when I don’t have my bud and take those shots- my gut hurts a bit.
I think a lot of the answers you’re going to get here will miss the crux of your question, which is whether smoking affects stem cell activation/regeneration. (I’d imagine you’d also want to know it if affects autophagy).
You will probably do better googling whether marijuana consumption has an effect on those processes in general. If it doesn’t (which is my suspicion, but I have nothing to base that on), then it wouldn’t have any effect during a fast, either.
My advice would be to shell out and get a herbal vappurizer. Storz and Bickle are the best brand IMO.
That way you’re avoiding bringing in combusted plant material in to your lungs which is obviously carcinogenic.
Those free radicals flooding the body from the smoke could potentially use up some/ all of your anti oxidant stores? I don’t know that for a fact it’s just speculation.
But herbal vaporisers that can’t even get to combustion temperature will surely be (at least marginally) better for you.
