Iām just starting my fasting journey and wondering how many also smoke while fasting and how that affects your experience. Please share with a fellow ent. š thank you in advance!
I do OMAD and Iām high frequently unless Iām at work. Your body will get used to what ever schedule you choose, itās really all about discipline. I donāt even get hungry anymore during my fast, stoned or not.
Iāve been fasting for maybe a month now and actively smoking through it all, I havenāt really noticed anything new. i feel like you do have to fight through the munchies the first few times but itās not bad for me unless Iām on like day 3 of a fast.
I do, but only between 8pm and bed. And I go to bed usually during the week at like 10-11pm. I usually have had a nice sized dinner (doing OMAD) so Iām generally full and donāt typically have any hunger issues.
ive done two 3 day fasts where i consumed water, electrolytes, coffee, tea, and smoked weed 2-3 times at night ā¦ just did a 4 day fast where i stopped smoking the night before ā¦ didnāt notice major differences other than struggling to sleep this time ā¦ the weed did not make me crave food but this time my goal was more autophagy than weightloss exclusively so i wanted to get more benefits of really cleansing my body/mind ā¦ each time i did 45 minutes of yoga at least twice and walked 10,000-15,000 steps each day.
The āmunchiesā is just another form of craving. Itās a sensation, not a commandment to eat. You can ignore it if the feeling arises.
Honestly, if I have sparkling water and tea/decaf coffee nearby, Iām never really more tempted to eat when high than when sober.
i stick to sativas, and try using flavored teas for munchies (i like tetleyās chai and cinnamon)
it took me a bit of experimenting to find a strain that caused the least increase in appitite.
does make it much harder though.
I have fasted while smoking weed. It can be done successfully and overall I think it makes the high better and you sleep better. Unfortunately for me, weed breaks down my discipline so I have to really fight the urge to eat (not from hunger) and oftentimes I do so I find it more productive to stay away from weed if I have real intentions of fasting
I donāt smoke weed anymore but Iāll tell you what it helped a lot because I would just get home from work smoke weed and I would fall asleep to the next morning and basically fast for almost 24 hours LOL
I donāt smoke it- but I do eat it!
I like a Sativa edible on Sunday evening- Iāll enjoy it before my fasting window starts and then while Iām chilling out, I devour ice cold seltzer. Oh my God seltzer tastes so delicious while Iām stoned. That and herbal teas.
I feel like itās all in your head. If you think itās going to be hard, itās probably going to be hardā¦. If you think āI canāt do itā then you probably wonāt be able to. Just tell yourself that if you eat, you arenāt going to be as high anymore. I did mainly 18/6 IF for a while and smoked a lot daily, during fasting and during my eating window. If you are strong enough mentally to not eat for 16+ hrs at a time then youāre for sure mentally strong enough to not eat after smoking.
One thing that I think really helped me with fasting in the beginning was I downloaded an app to keep track of my fasts. Iām sure there are a few available now that you can choose from. I kind of turned it into a game where I had to wait until the timer was up before eating and I didnāt want to lose.
You got this, I lost over 130lbs by intermittent fasting and eating healthier during my eating window. If I can do it, anyone can!
i get food repulsed while high XD if i havent eaten at all, i get so food repulsed like the smell of any food makes me gag. but i havent heard of anyone else that gets repulsed like me. if i force myself to start eating then i am okay after a bit, but itās /super/ hard to.
I no longer fast as pregnant. I lost nearly 50lbs over the course of 3/4 months last year fasting and I would smoke weed every night. At first I thought it was going to be a struggle and was tempted to give up smoking but it really wasnāt that bad as I was in the āfastingā mind set. I would just always make sure that I broke my fast straight after smoking and would eat a big dinner then fruits etc (fruit when high is amazing). I even smoked during a few 72 hour fasts and again was absolutely fine.
Yup, Iām a daily smoker and fast about everyday. Typically I do 18 - 24hr fasts and Iāve never had an issue due to my cannabis lifestyle. I will say, the common theme I see on days where Iām struggling to keep on fasting is always my not drinking enough water that day.
Iāve NEVER had an issue w my fasting when I stay ahead of ye ole water intake.
I fast 17:7 - 18:6 almost every day (90% of days), and I vape herb 6 of the 7 days of the week and it doesnāt affect my fast at all. Smoke weed makes you think you are hungry but itās just a thought that can be ignored, at least for me is really easy to fast even high.
Discipline, only that.
I do tincture during fast. A full dropper (1ml) has 9 calories and is pure fat so it doesnt break ketosis or autophagy.
I enjoy marijuana and derivatives very much but i find being overly baked during a fast takes some of the spiritual euphoria away.
The mind is otherwise very clear and sharp. But when intoxicated it is dull. When sober i find I have great realizations and reveries. When intoxicated these are much less common.
TBH I think there is a strong spiritual component to fasting. At the risk of outing myself here.
I think just as the physical body fasts during abstention so does the astral body and etheric body.
I think marihuana perhaps stunts the processes going on in the other 2 bodies during a fast.
I do smoke and trust me it is hard af. I work out when I get hungry, it Distracts me from the hungry pain. I live in a illegal state so I donāt have a choice for a strain. I work out high all the time, it actually helps.
Not sure if this has been mentioned as youāve had a lot of great replies, but one of my big things is to not get super stoned. I used to do that and was impossible to say no to the munchies.
Now I take smaller hits more often - still high but not blasted - and Iām mindful enough to keep the munchies at bay.
Cold water always helps. If you have flavored electrolyte water/snake juice, that helps too. Gum is my last case scenario; a couple calories so breaks the fast if youāre doing it for non-weight loss, but if youāre doing it for weight loss then itās nothing especially compared to losing yourself to the munchies lol
I HAD to quit smoking because of the munchies. Gained way too much weight because of it. I know plenty of people that can fight them off but for whatever reason I turn into a ravaged wolf and literally cannot stop eating everything in sight. Sucks cause I loved to smoke.
I do warriot diet, and I eat between 2-6 pm. I smoke almost everyday around 9:30pm for better sleep. I donāt feel hungry after smoking unless I am underfed. I also walk around at 10-11% body fat year around in my early 30s as a guy.
Before Iām high, I tell myself, āDonāt talk too much and donāt stuff your face with junk food!ā Then, after Iām high I talk too much and stuff my face with junk food. Ugh! No self control while stoned.
Never really had a problem, I do every other day fasting and smoke weed pretty much every day in the evening and it wasnāt any harder than being sober to stop myself from eating. If anything it helps me keep going because I can convince myself to keep going by āletting myself smokeā as long as I donāt eat until Iām supposed to. So I reward good fasts with smoking
Really? You want Munchies of all things while you are Fasting?
Decide, health or high?
If you must, try coffee while high, especially if you make the Keto Bulletproof coffee (a spoon of pure butter in there)
Honestly, weed was the thing that made it possible for me to drop from 90kgs (female, 22 y/o) to 60 kgs in a year. But I think it was because I was severely depressed and anxious and coped with food, and the weed helped give my tortured mind a break, and therefore let go of food as a coping mechanism. I also sort of used it as a tool to manage the pain/abstinences when transitioning to a fasting schedule.
But I donāt think it will work for everyone, most people would probably just make it harder for themselves by triggering the munchies.
For me, the actual fast while smoking goes fine. Sometimes smoking can be some sort of consumption that makes fasting less boring. But the problem is just I had terrific trouble controlling my calories once I broke the fast if I had been smoking
I cant smoke anymore bc of workā¦. but i felt like it helped me fast because i enjoyed being high over boredom eating. I would just get home from work at night and play games, go for a run, or direct my attention toward something that would keep me busy.
I can not believe how many responses I got on this. Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to comment on this post. š I feel very encouraged to continue on this journey and see where I end up. I intend to make this a lifestyle with enough will power. Iām 31, about to have my first kid of my own, and want to try to ensure my health doesnāt fail me before I can see them move on as an adult.
In case anyone was wondering Iām starting an 18:6 cycle and really trying to focus on getting my calories through more nutritious things rather than the usual junk Iāve eaten my whole life in the 6 hours Iām eating. Nothing absurd to start but I wasnāt trying to try to take on too much either. Iāve completed my first fast today and have just started my 2nd. Thank you everyone for the encouragement and I hope to have some progress pics posted for you all to see in the future!
I donāt see the benefit of smoking if you want to truly water fast ā introducing carcinogenic plant matter while your body is detoxing doesnāt seem like a benefit. Weed also impacts metabolism and other things.
