Answer

You posted yesterday asking if it was safe to dry fast if you were a T1 Diabetic.

I told you that the main expert on this Dr Filonov says don’t dry fast if you have T1 Diabetes.

I told you, you shouldn’t do any fasting before consulting a doctor to discuss your situation.

I told you it was potentially dangerous.

You decided to do it anyway, and I’m pretty sure you didn’t consult your doctor.

That’s it! That’s all the advice you should be getting from reddit or any online forum on your personal life threatening medical condition.

Your blood sugar can potentially drop to a lot lower than it is now and the ketones can increase.

Go to your doctor!

Answer

These kinds of questions make me very uneasy.

To me, that sounds like a normal blood sugar to have while fasting, but I don’t have diabetes, and I’m not sure if what feels normal for me is okay for all. If you’re concerned, why not place a call to your doctor and ask them if it’s okay?

Answer

ICU RN here.

If your sugar is fine and you feel fine, then you’ll be okay. It is normal to have very high ketones with a dry fast. We worry when your ketones are high AND your sugar is high because this signals uncontrolled lipolysis. You would likely also experience uncontrolled heavy breathing (due to metabolic acidosis) and incredible thirst (moreso than a regular dry fast).
