Ketosis on Rolling Fasts

Hey all, after a somewhat unpleasant discussion here yesterday, I went out and purchased keto strips to satiate my curiosity.

I’ve been on rolling fasts (48, 48, 72) for nearly 8 weeks and I was curious to see how quickly I went in ketosis.

Yesterday at the 24 hour mark, I was in moderate ketosis. Today was an eating day, so out of curiosity I tested myself after 5 hours. To my surprise, the strip changed color to the ~ 5 mg/dL level already. I did have the last half cup of scotch after this test, but I’m going to test again at the 8-10 hour mark before I go to bed.

For reference, I haven’t had any issues with insulin or blood sugar (fortunately, as I’ve definitely been heavy enough for long enough). I had ~100-150g of carbs - mainly from rice in my sushi, bbq sauce for my ribs (leftover surf and turf, heyo), pork rinds, a glass of scotch, and a single Andes mint chocolate for dessert. The entire meal was about 1500 calories, which is consistent with my target for meal days. FWIW, I was feeling content after the roll of sushi and pork rinds (1000 calories), but… ribs, right?

Onward to my 72 hour fast. I’ll probably test again tonight before bed and depending on the results, test again tomorrow morning.

The keto stix are not that helpful since they measure what the kidneys spill over. You can have high levels and low spill over. Or versa vica.

Get a Precision Xtra $28 and some strips and you’ll have a better idea.

I do 40:8s and after 8hrs and a walk I can be back in the 2’s and stay there till I eat again. I drop down to around 1-1.3 while eating. I only eat about twice.
