I never had success with “calories in / calories out” dieting. I’d lose a few pounds after weeks of limiting calories and gain it back just eating normal meals.
What was successful was fasting roughly 36- 50 hours a week. I fast from Sunday night to Tuesday afternoon and I might throw in another 16 hour fast during the week. I was able to eat three meals a day (non fasting days) and lose a few pounds a week.
This last week I didn’t lose any weight. I’m not gaining weight, but I want to lose a few pounds this week.
The only thing that I did different last week was I started taking a candida supplement. It has PAU D’ARCO, OREGANO OIL, BLACK WALNUT, AND CAPRYLIC ACID.
Could that stuff affect my metabolism?
It’s common to hit a temporary plateau in weight loss. Just keep going and make sure you aren’t eating over your calorie limit for each day (I know you don’t count calories but they do mean something)
I don’t think the new supplement you are taking is probably impacting your metabolism. I think that maybe you’ve hit a weight loss plateau or are eating at a maintenance level of calories each day
Personally I’d do two things:
By process of elimination, stop the supplement during fasting time, and only take it during non fasting time.
Change things up because I feel the body gets used to certain rhythms, so now instead of hitting 50hrs, I’d go for 72hrs, if at least once in a while.
But overall, trust in the process. If you’re in an actual calorie deficit (while it’s true calories in and out are more complicated than most people like to admit, they do partly matter) then your body is doing its thing. Also take into account sometimes the body might want to focus on taking care of other things in your body, at least I like to think about it that way.
The number in your scale changes a lot from time to time. Don’t get too hang up on it, every day that you fast you lose 0.5-1 lb.
Your metabolism and daily caloric expenditure will slow down as you lose weight. This is natural: there is less of you to keep alive and less of you to move around. Fasting is the best way of keeping your metabolism stable and won’t lead to additional metabolic slowdown (as a low cal diet without managing insulin would).
