Please explainlikeimfive , how to choose omega 3 supplement.

How do I pick a supplement to get omega 3. The labels on the supplements are very confusing.

  1. If we compare krill oil vs fish oil vs algae oil what is considered right choice for getting omega 3.
  2. What detail should I look on the supplement labels to make right choice.
  3. Do all three sources get rancid or just the fish oil.

I dont eat processed food and we cook with seasme oil and ground nut oil. Will these seed oil affect my omega 6 vs omega 3 ration in body?

My parents are vegetarians for religious reasons so we don’t cook fish at home but they are okay for me buy and eat from outside. The fishes I get from restaurants are the same farm fed ones so skeptical if they are healthy.

Make sure you’re getting adequate amounts of ALA (one of the two essential fatty acids). Fish oil is a good source of EPA and DHA, but you’ll need something like walnut oil for ALA. You may already get adequate amounts through your diet, but one tablespoon of walnut oil gives you enough ALA for the day.

To get enough linoleic acid, the only essential omega 6, I take around a tablespoon of sunflower oil daily.

If you’re not eating fish twice a week supplementing omegas may be beneficial. Icelandic ultra pure by bio Schwartz is a pretty baller fish oil supplement. With any supplement you should gauge if you feel any benefit as a result of taking them. Few supplements have quality studies backing up the benefits of taking them.

Unfortunately, supplements are unregulated or under-regulated in many countries. What I mean is, unless you are getting your supplements tested by a third party, you can not guarantee that what you are buying is actually the supplement you want or even the correct dose. For example: I used to buy Carleson’s fish oil supplement because I heard from reputable sources that it was a good brand but I started researching it for myself and found out sunflower oil, which is an omega-6, is used as a filler, even though it says this nowhere on the label that Carleson’s fish oil contains sunflower oil. Basically, you have to really research or test any supplement that you buy, and that’s not even considering shipping. Buying something like fish oil or walnut oil from a site like Amazon, you have no idea whether what you are getting is expired, was exposed to high temperatures in transit, etc. All of this to say, I think supplements are more trouble than they are worth, and you are better off including foods into your diet which have those oils in them, unless you have a reputable company/brand you are buying from, but any good supplement company I can find is typically outside of my price range.
