I can cook by smell normally, so tasting isn’t the struggle, it’s just the added mind bend?!
It gets easier the more you fast. After a few fasts, it doesn’t matter for me if there is food or not. It helps if you have done a lot of keto and intermittent fasting prior which gets you fat adjusted and not driven by any hunger pangs.
