Respiratory virus and dry fasting failed

Hi guys, just sharing some experiences:

TL;TR: Fasted for 60 hours, felt great but sickness returned.

  1. If I am eating low-carb/keto I am not getting sick almost at all, only when I switch back to carbs, I sometimes get ill (usually traveling or some big parties). I had good results when fasting when the sickness started but did not do fast this time.

  2. This time I was traveling between EU/Canada, and got most probably Respiratory syncytial virus. It started with solid throat pain. I had an unusual amount of green mucus coming from my throat and nose. I did not eat so much this time, because I was not hungry, but did no fast. However, I did not have time to recover, I was mildly active every day (working in IT from home). I do not have any fever or higher temperature with this type of illness.

  3. Some days I was getting better, and some days worse. After about two and half weeks, it turned into a big coughing, a bit wet during the day and dry at night. Did not sleep well because of a night cough. Normally, it would take a week to get healthy, but not this time. After approx. in 3 weeks, I went to the doctor, hoped for antibiotics, got checked and my CRP was 9.5, which means no bacterial infection. Got some medicine for phlegm removal (Erdomed 300mg), but it did not help at all and the cough was getting worse and worse. Finally took a few sick days.

4. It was time to try dry fast. The first day, after about 17 hours, I was coughing like crazy, but then after one big stroke, the cough stopped. The next morning, 36-hour fasting, I had no cough, but still got some green phlegm from the throat. I have never dry-fasted for more then 36-hours, but I decided to continue. The second day looked very promising, no cough, no green phlegm, I felt some thin transparent mucus in my throat, but other than that, I felt fantastic! Was planning to go back to the gym in 2 days :)

  1. I was fasting for a total of 60 hours, day three, I felt completely healthy! My weight went down about 4-5 kg, I had some minor elbow pain and it has disappeared and my skin felt so good. Started refeeding myself. I had some keto meals during the day and a cup of kefir. But at the end of the day, I started to feel that something is wrong again.

  2. Since that, I had a big decline, and in about 3 days, the cold turned into bronchitis, and the cough came back, but this time it was coming from the top of the lungs. Got an Isoprinosine antiviral medicine, took 2 pills 3 times a day, and continued with Erdomed and after a week I finally feel that my health is back. Still have some phlegm, but it is coming out very easily, and hopefully, the immune system is winning.

Answer

Sounds like you’d rather work hard, go to the gym, and die of the common cold than get enough bed rest to kick whatever you have. I’m sure that steroid made you feel good. Try getting more downtime so a 24 hour cold virus doesn’t become a near death experience.
