Weight fluctuations

Hey everyone. I weigh myself once a week. And feel very disheartened by the fluctuations which are massive at times. Like I could be 67 one week and then 75 the next despite my same routine and eating habits. Feel very depressed at times even tho I try not to let the scales get to me πŸ˜₯πŸ˜“πŸ˜ž

I always ask this: are you female? Are these fluctuations occurring as your period approaches?

Hormonal changes before menstruation can cause large amounts of water retention, which makes the scale go bonkers.

Answer

Once a week is a lot. Do once a month, or go by body measurements, or even better, how you look and feel. Numbers on a scale aren’t everything and I know firsthand that it can become kind of an obsession. Stick to your plan, keep up the good work, and most importantly, give yourself some grace and patience. The hard work does pay off!

Can you switch to weighing every day and recording it in an app or something that can show you over time the downward trend? Weight can yoyo during the week so just log it and try not to internalize anything about what it means. Over time you should see a trend, hopefully downward. If not then you can adjust what you’re doing!

Another alternative is not to weigh at all.

Answer

I weigh myself daily and then take the 7 day average each week to help track trends. My weight fluctuates so much due to ovulation and menstrual cycles. If seeing those fluctuations is discouraging I’d suggest using your waist measurements as a guide and do a monthly weigh in.
