Is it normal for weight to fluctuate frequently between a few pounds?

I’m 5’6 and fluctuate between 128 -132 pounds seemingly randomly (depends on how much excercise I’m doing/ how picky my eating is that week) which according to an online calculator is within a healthy BMI. Is this okay for my body?

Answer

It’s entirely normal for weight fluctuations. If I eat a lot of carbs one day, I’ll have a 5lb weight gain, even if I only eat 1k calories over. I believe I read somewhere that you retain 3-4g of water for every 1g of carb you eat. So take that into account when you’re tracking macros.

Answer

I can vary as much as 8-10lbs when I am heavier, and.4-8 lbs at goal weight. In order to keep the most accurate weight I always weigh in the morning after going to.the bathroom and before eating or drinking or showering (long hair, several pounds of water in wet hair).

I’m a lady and find the same thing…. weight definitely fluctuates with my cycle as well as sometimes I want salad and yogurt and granola and grilled fish, and sometimes I want fried chicken, mac & cheese and pizza.

Answer

5 lb drift is not a big deal. What matters is the overall trend. If you are staying in that drift window, you are doing good.

Remember that a small amount of water amounts for a lot of that. If you pee half a liter, that’s over a pound. Same as if you eat higher salts or something that your gut retains more water. It doesn’t take much. A quarter lb of leaner meat can retain a pound of water, plus the meat, plus anything else. That works it’s way out.. CICO, but may throw your measurements out a day or 2

If you are concerned, which doesn’t sound like you should be, weigh yourself more frequently so you have a piece of mind of how it all works. I’ve found that every now and then I like to weigh frequently to reinforce how my body responds to different meal types.

Answer

Yeah, that’s entirely normal. Depends on a lot of factors, which is why the general rule I’ve found is to weight yourself in the morning after you pee. The extra weight could be food you’ve eaten, poop that will come out sometime in the day, fluids in your bladder, etc. Once I went to the doctor because I had had loose stools for a week (and I mean like… cloudy WATER) and she tapped my stomach and said I even sounded super empty. Sure enough, my weight was a good 10 pounds lighter than normal. So within a few pounds is totally normal.

Answer

unless you are tracking every ounce of fluid drank and gram of food eaten as well as weighing yourself before/after each poo/pee to track the outflow you will see variability normally….I’d say 5lb increments and weekly checks are good enough unless you are getting into competitive body building and then have to really dial in every single calorie consumed/burned.

Answer

Yes!
There are many factors…
Ok maybe not that many but most people just think of bowel/stomach content that can i guess make up for a few pounds.
But another huge factor is watercontent of your body…
the amount of blood you have usually doesnt vary too much, but your muscles can save a ton of water and also release it.
Im very heavy and my weight can vary to a difference of like 10 pounds, maybe even more.

Answer

Yeah, keep in mind your body has waste, digesting food and etc at your body at varying times.

the one way I found to measure my fat is to literally grab it and measure it by my hands, as my weight will fluctuated due to daily activities.
