If a food has a kcal of 132, and I assume it means an amount of calories? what does that mean as far as the quantity of the food? Quantity such as; Cup, pound, ounce? I assume kcal is an amount of calories?
I am not a veterinarian. I would suggest you consult with your veterinarian prior to preparing and feeding homemade dog food in order to meet your pet’s nutritional needs and in order to avoid serious health complications.
The term kcal is the abbreviation for kilocalorie and 1 kcal is equivalent to 1 calorie. We use kcal in medical work and scientific studies. In terms of quantity, that is per serving size. Are you reading a specific nutrition label?
A “dietary calorie” is 1000 calories. kcal means kilo-calorie means 1000 calorie.
Calories on food labels are dietary calories but they drop the ‘dietary’.
A calorie is a very small amount on energy.
Food has a lot of energy so they use dietary calories.
Fats have 9 calories per gram
Carbs have 4 calories per gram
Proteins have 4 calories per gram
