I’m currently trying to improve my eating habits because they are reallyyyy bad. While reading the dietary guidelines for Americans it said that we should be eating an average of 5 1/2 cups of red and orange vegetables per week, whereas we only need 1 1/2 cups of green vegetables per week. Now why is this? Sadly I bought baby spinach and broccoli this week so I’m hoping that these figures can be interchangeable lol.
My advice would be not to worry too much about details like this. If you’re just now trying to integrate more veggies into your life for the first time, let that be enough. You can try to go for the rainbow to ensure a wide variety of nutrients, but don’t overwhelm yourself while you’re learning. Also don’t be afraid to buy frozen veggies while you’re getting accustomed to cooking more/healthier meals! It can be considerably less overwhelming since they don’t go bad like fresh ones. Incorporating specific variety and focusing on all fresh vegetables will come with time. Congratulations on making healthy changes for yourself!
I was in the same place. Poor diet...but I wanted to level up my life.
I started cooking 1 good meal.Chicken Breast - w Seasoning (Grilled w/ Avocado Spray) + Chopped onion for flavor.
Sweet Potato - grilled on same pan w leftover spray & seasoning. [I like cutting them up to look like fries]
Broccoli - chopped / grilled
Baby Spinach - Grilled (Avocado Spray, keep wet)
Throw it in a meal container. Amounts vary.I have glass container with 2 compartments25/75
25% Chicken75% Veggies
—also started lifting. Deadlifts, Squats, Pull-ups, Push-ups.
Baby steps, but I’m hanging on. Still eat some of my favorite foods, but they’re more and more taking a backseat to this healthy way of being.
I feel like my poops are better. I feel the food is true energy now and definitely feel when I eat crap.
I’m not a good writer, so sorry for lack of structure.
