Will taking medicines affect my fast ?

Q1. It’s homeopathy meds. Basically just 4 sugar granules with meds on them.

If I think about it, the calorie count might not be more than 2 which I consume after 12 hours into the fast.

Usually i just skip the breakfast meds and consume the lunch one but i am just curious as to would it construe to breaking the fast.

Q2. Similarly, what if somebody takes multi vitamins or blood pressure meds in morning. Their calorific count would be negligible too. Would it break the fast too ?

Answer

You should always take doctor prescribed meds as directed. IF should never supercede a doctor’s advice on taking meds. So if you need to take blood pressure meds in the morning, IF needs to take a back seat to that (though you can always talk to your doctor about your diet goals and see if there’s a better option).

If it’s homeopathic and not prescribed by a physician, since it contains sugar, it may break your fast by triggering insulin response. If you can safely forgo the homeopathic meds, I would wait until you eat food to take those. I also only take multivitamins with food, just to be on the safe side.
