Answer

I drink a lot of tea, typically green or white in the morning and herbals throughout the day. They help me feel full and help take the place of having a snack, and many have beneficial attributes. To my understanding, as long as there are no calories in the tea (sugar, cream, etc), it shouldn’t break the fast. Tea was advised for much longer fasts as well, ones lasting days or even more.

Answer

I’m reading “Fast. Feast. Repeat.” by Gin Stephens. She says plain black, green, and white teas without any flavoring are fine. Herbal teas are kind of a grey area. She says if they have fruit or other flavoring it could cause an insulin spike.

She recommends to stick to plain black, green or white tea in your first month of IF, and then introduce herbal teas later. If you get hungry like 30 min after drinking it, then it likely caused an insulin spike, and you shouldn’t drink that one during your fast.
