Happy New Year everyone! Looking for advice. During the day I am great about keeping my self in check with waiting to eat and not “overeating” but at night it seems when I go to unwind for the night I am hungry and start absentmindedly snacking.
Recommendations on how to end this?
I found eating a very protein focus final meal helped with satiety. Clear out the snack foods if at all possible. Changing up my evening routine was key, too. Hit the gym, go for a walk, do something that keeps you busy and gets you far from the kitchen. Do a puzzle or knit or something that keeps hands busy, etc. Good luck!
I have this problem as well. For me the solution has been waiting as late as possible to end my fast. Depending on the day, I usually fast until 6pm or 7pm and do a 2-4 hour eating window.
I’ll have one fairly large meal of around 700-800 calories with a lot of protein and that leaves me with another 700 calories or so for snacking. Getting to bed by 10-10:30 helps fight off any other late night cravings.
And to help avoid overeating as a result of boredom I drink A LOT of tea, lemon is a favorite. It gives me something to do with my hands and mouth (used this to help me quit smoking as well). Good luck! The night binging is a tough habit to break but you’ve got this
I’m the same and still working on this myself. I’ve found giving yourself a strict eating window helps, ie: eating between 4pm & 8pm and nothing is allowed after that. It helps rather than just winging it. Hope this helps, as I said I’m still working on this myself. Also read “atomic habits” it’s a great book and it mentions this and certain things you can do to avoid these things
I find that using a fasting app and hitting the “start fast” button helps me, as did gradually easing into it, trying to start my fast 15 minutes earlier each night. I just got back from a vacation where I did not fast and am in the process of easing myself back into it. I did 14 hours the first day back, 16 the next 2 days and today I’m doing 17.
So I do OMAD and have my dinner anytime from 5PM-7PM, I have a good sized meal, pudding if I want it then I’m back on (usually allow myself an hr).
The other key I find is drinking loads of water, it sounds simple but it really does surpass the need to eat, feeling pekish?…down a glass of water and see how you go.
