Bloating while fasting for almost 40 hours

I am currently fasting for weight loss and health related benefits. Most of the fast has been dry with occasional cinnamon no calorie mints and water. Is there a reason why I haven’t seen much weight loss and I’m bloated after 40 hours? I close to taking a laxative and seeing if that helps. I did have a coffee with salt and 2 tbs of Splenda at about 37 hours of the fast to stay in the fast and help with constipation, but i don’t think it’s working. Any advice is appreciated.

Answer

If your sugar free mints are sweetened with sorbitol/mannitol/other sugar alcohols those are known to cause bloating. And especially if you’re taking them on an empty stomach I can imagine that might exacerbate the effect.
