Do you find yourself cold and sleepy while fasting?

I just began fasting about 3 weeks ago. I was fasting 16:8 and stepped it up to 20:4. It hasn’t been difficult. I’m not suffering from hunger or headaches, etc., but I have been feeling cold and sleepy.

My wife and I prefer to keep our house at 73 degrees, but the hvac never seemed to cut off so we backed the heat down to 70. A couple of days after we began fasting, I noticed that I couldn’t quite get warm enough unless I burned the gas logs, and as my fasting periods increased, so did the feeling of being cold. Today I made it to 29 hours and it seemed like I couldn’t get warm at all. Then we decided to eat. After eating, (steak, Brussels sprouts, 1 slice whole wheat bread and a kiwi fruit) I had to peel off all the extra clothes and even found myself feeling hot. It’s been 5 hours since supper and I’m comfortable at 72 degrees with the ceiling fan running.

I also noticed that I have been abnormally sleepy in the afternoons when fasting. I know I’m getting enough sleep because I’ve been monitoring it for years.

Has anyone else had these issues or is it just me?

Answer

Yeah, when i fast i’m definitely cold and if I eat i’m warm. so it goes and is the effect of the thermic effect of foods. Its helpful in the summer heat to be able to cool off by fasting, and i don’t mind being cold in the winter by just bundling up a bit. we keep the house at 66-68 during the days fwiw.

huh weird, I haven’t noticed any cold feelings. I have noticed weird circulation issues, like riding my bike my hands may start tingling for example.

And I think I feel less sleepy, my sleep feels a bit more disturbed or I need less sleep.

I have noticed feeling colder when I’m fasting as well! I was going to ask if others experienced this too as I’m new to fasting. Glad it isn’t just me! Also kind of glad about this side effect, because I tend to run hot and it’s nice not to overheat all day. 😅
