Does anyone here have high bilirubin levels due to fasting?

Just got my blood results back and surprised to see that I have higher than normal bilirubin levels. I need to speak with my GP to investigate this further.

Has anyone else gotten this from fasting? I’m female and it mainly only happens to males when fasting according to this study

Answer

It could be Gilbert’s syndrome a harmless liver condition

From Mayo clinic article:>The most frequent sign of Gilbert’s syndrome is an occasional yellowish tinge of the skin and the whites of the eyes as a result of the slightly elevated levels of bilirubin in the blood. In people with Gilbert’s syndrome, bilirubin levels may increase and jaundice may become apparent because of: Illness, such as a cold or the flu Fasting or eating a very low-calorie diet Dehydration Menstruation Stress Strenuous exercise Lack of sleep

Check with your GP anyway

For me, annual results from 2013 show an elevated number. I strongly feel that it’s hereditary and not obtained from any particular lifestyle choices (ie. fasting).

Here’s a decision tree to see if you have it or not:

Lactate Dehydrogenase was listed as LDH for me, on my results. I seem to be missing Haptoglobin.

Personally, I’m curious to see if fasting (or HIIT) would impact the liver (with Gilberts), which would in turn impact digestion (and other down stream processes)?
