Donating blood

I try to donate blood a few times a year and am trying to schedule my fasting window around it. Anyone read any scientific research around whether there is any effect on autophagy when donating blood? It would seem to me that being in a fasted state when donating would enhance cellular renewal, but perhaps it’s not necessary. Any thoughts?

Answer

I do it. Normally donate during a fast and never had any problem. I’m experimenting myself different type of fasting ( also dry ) and donating in that state. It also seem they find no problemIn the blood tests

Answer

Don’t do this. I used to donate plasma which is only a portion of the blood and if I was fasting or even just not eating enough, i would get really sick — flu sick — awful body aches etc. for days after. Not worth any weight loss and didn’t feel like cellular renewal to me but your question is interesting in that regard. I think it does something to your immune system and you just can’t fight anything. Could have been a fluke but I wouldn’t risk it! I felt so awful just giving a part of my blood so I can’t imagine how bad giving whole blood would be.
