Hi everybody I got my lab results yesterday and my cholesterol is 248 and triglycerides are 500. I’m freaking out because it was usually in the 200 range since I was a kid but can’t believe how much it went up.
I do intermittent fasting about 16 or 18 hours a day. I do admit sometimes what I eat isn’t that healthy like maybe a burrito from the Taqueria which to me is it fast food?
Did anybody have problems with their triglycerides that were alleviated by losing weight through intermittent fasting I did read that some studies show that intermittent fasting increases triglycerides thank you for any help.
I am overweight I’ve always been about 20 to 30 lb overweight
Been doing IF since last august. Latest readings on cholesterol / trigs as of January 2022 were: 4.47 total / 1.51 HDL / 2.62 LDL and 0.72 TRIGS (all mmol/l). A large drop singe August.
Mind you, no carbs and no sugar in that time lots of fish and eggs, and hitting 100 lbs dropped. YMMV.
What a coincidence… I just got my report on triglycerides two days ago.
I don’t know what your numbers are a measurement of. For me my cholesterol/HDL risk ratio was 5.25 and my triglycerides were 3.39 mmol/L. Less than 4.9 and 2.21 mmol/L respectively would be healthier and ideal.
Anyhow, that was June 18. I never thought I ate red meat in excess but doctor said to limit the intake of it; easy. Wasn’t much of a drunk and only had a dram the hard liquor for celebrations, so not much cutting back there. Then doctor said do cardio. That was a moodkill because I’d rather expend just calories on lifting weights. So? I bought a Concept2 RowERG first week of August. By the end of the same month my Matriarch wanted a Peloton for her birthday so I embraced the culture and eventually fell in love with its cardio offerings in addition to my love/hate relationship with Rowing.
And then I started Intermittent Fasting mid November, never with the goal to lose weight and is purely for Autophagy. Thus, strength goals + cardio goals + modifications to my already healthy eating + less alcohol = a 37% reduction to my cholesterol/HDL risk ratio and a 75% reduction in my Triglycerides. Way healthier ranges to be in.
TLDR; diet and exercise reduced triglycerides significantly for me.
All the best!
