Hi All,
Needing some help in fine tuning electrolyte intake during prolonged fasting (yes Automoderator I know electrolytes are in the wiki, ugh I wish I could turn that thing off). I’m on day 5 of an undefined fast and doing well. My longest fast previously was 7 days. I had to quit because of diarrhea and upset stomach at the 7 day mark. I followed the typical electrolyte recommendations with magnesium tabs, and no salt and sea salt mixed with water. I think the amount of sodium chloride was too high for me. I also have mild hypertension so reducing sodium intake is good for me (yes I’m under doctor supervision and don’t need to be blasted for fasting; the prolonged fasting actually helps reduce my hypertension; kick rocks Automoderator).
So far on this fast I’m taking 400mg magnesium tab every few days at bed time, 1/8tsp no salt (690mg potassium chloride per 1/4 tsp) mixed in carbonated water with lime juice (covers up the bad taste of the no salt, I’m not interested in being reprimanded for the lime juice) a few times a day, 200mg potassium in tablet form at night before bed, and about 1gram of salt every couple of days. So far working well and no diarrhea or stomach upset. As a matter of fact the fast is going very well overall. My concern is with the lower electrolyte intake at what point am I going to see issues if any? I see that some people do prolonged fasting with no electrolyte supplementation so it seems intuitive that this may be an individual customization thing.
Thoughts? Anyone else experience similar and found a solution that works for you?
I’m not able to do EF’s without electrolytes. My last 7 day, I used the Reset extended day electrolyte capsules which also have b/vitamins. I had to decrease my cardio towards the end, but other than that I really didn’t have any other issues. Good luck!
