Help with understanding section 5.2 from the Wiki

5.2. Will eating/drinking X break my fast?

I’m looking for somebody who can help provide this section with a bit more clarification for myself. I am still new to this world so maybe my logic is completely wrong and needs correction.

A while back, I started to do the 16:8 fasting method with weight loss as the primary goal. While all the other benefits of fasting are good, they aren’t my primary focus right now.

The main reason I ask for help is because I enjoy drinking powered mix drinks, such as hot chocolate or lattes in the morning. Unfortunately, a single serving of those can be over 100+ calories and have a lot of carbs/sugar. I know 100% they will break a fast if drank them. I’m sure there are low-calorie versions of said drinks available that are an option.

But with that said, how crucial would that be if I did break my fast with one of those drinks (not everyday)? As weight loss is my primary goal, as long as my calorie deficit for that day is low, will breaking my fast a few hours early (12-13 hours instead of 16) be something to worry about? Would it even be considered fasting at that point?

Like the Wiki says, will I still see the benefits of fasting if I drink those or is that too much? Is there maybe a recommended calorie amount for drinks of this nature? Or would it be better to just stick with straight tea that won’t impact a fast and not worry about any of this? :)

Answer

I think you hit it on the head. If your goal is weight loss then you’ll be fine. You’re still at a deficit. No one can avoid the law of thermodynamics.

If autophagy is your goal then yeah that would interrupt.
