Answer

It depends on your eating window/time. You can always explain which meal(s) you won’t be eating. Then, ask them to help themselves to items you have provided like toast, cereal, muffins & fruit for breakfast and/or sandwich & salad ingredients for lunch. If you don’t find it too difficult to sit with someone else while they’re eating, grab a beverage and keep them company. Same with going out for lunch. I have lunch out with colleagues a couple of times per week and just order black coffee or unsweetened iced tea.

Would you be willing to have an early lunch in lieu of fasting? Say breakfast / lunch at 10-11ish to then stop eating at 6-7pm

Just a suggestion. I sincerely can accommodate people / be with others without breaking my fast.

Answer

I would probably go with the flow and relax my fasting schedule to have lunch and dinner with them. Usually breakfast is not a super social meal in my circle, so I feel like it would be very easy to just do 18:6 or 16:8 for a few days. Maybe put some muffins and yogurts and stuff in a very accessible place, so they can grab breakfast without it being a huge event.

Then pick back up where you left off, resuming your normal schedule or with an EF.

How did it go? I’m starting ADF but work in a culture where it’s totally normal for people to be extremely nosey about what I’m eating (and why it’s wrong). I’m not looking forward to lunch time today, but I’ll stand my ground and see how it goes!
