According to the nutrition facts on google:
There are 85mg of cholesterol in 100g of chicken breast
There are 80mg of cholesterol in 100g of ribeye steak
Ribeye is one of the fattiest cuts of meat, and chicken breast is one of the leanest. I thought it was animal fat that contained cholesterol. If so, how can chicken breast have more than ribeye?
All animal cells contain cholesterol, since it is a component of animal cell membranes. Cholesterol content does not necessarily correlate with total fat content. Triglycerides are actually the most abundant fat molecule found in the lipid droplets within adipocytes (fat cells), not cholesterol.
Cholesterol is not saturated fat. The fat you see in a ribeye steak/the marbling is saturated fat. This is the stuff that gets stuck to the LDL cholesterol and will start to clog arteries and veins. Trim any visible fat before you cook.
you also need to understand the difference between dietary cholesterol (what you eat) and blood serum cholesterol (what they test in a blood test). You body produces but also needs dietary cholesterol, but like anything including water, just don’t go overboard in consumption.
Check out chicken eggs, they are loaded with cholesterol. Should it really be a surprise that chicken tissue has lots of cholesterol?
