How do you deal with lack of support from your family?

Me, my dad and my uncle do intermittent fasting and we’ve only gotten good results from it. Besides the weight loss we’ve reduced symptoms of dietary-related conditions that we have.

The rest of our family is extremely skeptical and keep saying it’s not healthy, despite our results showing the exact opposite and consulting with a doctor. It’s also pretty annoying when the women in my family who are very skinny and fast without even knowing it keep telling us ‘you look fine you don’t need to lose weight’ ‘don’t lose any weight or you’ll be a bag of bones!’, despite the fact that we are frequently on the verge of being overweight. I’m starting to think it’s jealousy.

It’s also really heartbreaking for us to watch our other family members and colleagues suffer from obesity and obesity-related diseases because they deny their real eating habits/have tried to diet but failed. And yet they keep criticising us.

Answer

Maybe just stop talking to them about it. My family doesn’t know that I practice IF, they only know that I count carbs.

I’ve been told that I “look fine” at 200lbs and when I pointed out to them that I was also 200lbs when I was 9 mos pregnant, that usually shut them down.

You have to do what’s best for you, just let them be wrong. It’s annoying, yes, but people feel threatened when others try to better themselves. Just remember that their remarks aren’t really about you.

Keep going, you’re doing great!
