I’ve recently gotten into intermittent fasting and obviously I’m just starting but I’ve heard so many great things but also some negatives about fasting for too long. How long is a good time to be intermittent fasting?
for me, 21 hours is too long. When I started though, 16 hours and one minute was too long.
It depends on how comfortable you are and how you acclimate to the discipline. It’s a real “your mileage may vary” situation.
There are OMADers in here who can’t believe they ever wasted days of their lives eating multiple meals and there are people who still like to do 14/10 after years, they just use the structure to keep themselves from snacking at night.
I would say try 16:8, 8 hour eating window and 16 hour fast, i have been fasting every Ramadan all 29/30 days since 6th class and usually it’s a 14-hour fast period then we break the fast and i would still do all the activities throughout the day but it’s not weight-loss motivated and i always felt fresh
seems like 16 hours is a pretty common length to start with. 23 hours (one meal a day) is pretty good too. i’ve done a handful of 36 and 47 hour fasts, which aren’t too bad and are good for resetting after a big feast day.
my wife does 47 hour fasts twice a week sometimes and she gets really tired when she does that, but she gets good results and recovers quickly once she eats something. she’s gone longer a few times, maybe 60-70 hours, but found it too hard to keep her energy level up to do it very often.
