Its been a few days
Too long is when it has an odor. I cooked chicken that had been thawed and in the fridge for 5 days a few nights ago, it was fine. I was a little worried bc of the amount of time, but it didn’t smell.I think sometimes it has to do with how it’s wrapped, if air can get at it bacteria grow faster.
Work in food service here and the rule of thumb is 6 days after it comes out of the freezer or gets opened or anything really…. one you see it basically you got 6 days. Of course smell it first. If it smells like death don’t eat it
If it’s packaged, whatever date is on the package as long as you haven’t taken it out. If it’s from the butcher and not marinated in anything, either by you or the butcher, then I’d eat it within 48h of buying. But then again I’m weird about chicken.
