Suppose you had half your carbs be white rice and bread and half lentils/fruits/veggies. Would that cut it?
Preferably non should be empty and all should be complex. Obviously that’s really strict though so try to keep refined carbs and added sugars to less than 10% of your daily calories. I’d just focus on complex unrefined sources like beans, wholegrains, etc and then you can budget in refined sources like pastries and donuts for pleasure once you know your getting enough fiber. Some refined carbs here and there won’t hurt but keep it to a minimum and try not to overconsume as they aren’t very satiating.
I eat a high carb diet. My carbs are mainly whole grains, beans, lentils, vegetables, and fruits, but I eat white rice with every meal because I cook mostly Asian type meals. I don’t care that white rice isn’t as nutritious because I get my nutrients from the rest of my food.
If the majority of your diet is solid, no need to sweat it if you also eat something like a donut once in a while.
