I feel light headed when I IF, can I modify my fasting to get the benefits?

27 M,

I used to be able to IF until 6pm no issue, from age 21-24, but these days if I attempt to fast until even 1pm I feel like Im going hypoglycemic and may faint.

Is it possible I can drink a sugary liquid throughout the day and my big meals at the end of the day? I’ve tried this way and I actually enjoy it and feel more energetic/comfortable doing it this way rather than a regular lifestyle eating plan.

When I eat regular meals, I feel sluggish and lose my energy/focus. But throughout the day if I eat nothing, have no breakfast but just sip a gatorade throughout the day or a sprite I feel fine. Why is this? I’m not diabetic or anything, so it’s a bit confusing.

tl;dr: is drinking sugary liquids throughout the day and eating big meals at the end of the day an existing style of fasting? Is there a name for it? Cause it seems to work for me, but i want to understand if it’s healthy or unhealthy etc

Answer

Consuming sugar will break your fast so no.
Have you tried taking a pinch of salt instead when you feel that way? Another thing to look at is lowering your carb intake during your feeding. I find that when I consume carbs, especially simple and processed carbs and sugars, it effects my energy levels the day after. I would try eliminating carbs for a few days and see how it makes you feel.

Answer

If I get caught out and feel light headed it’s usually because I haven’t eaten enough at my last meal and/or not drank enough water. l what I do is I dissolve a stock cube in hot water and drink it. (Oxo don’t know what brands are available to you) This doesn’t seem to stop my weight loss but then again I rarely need to use it, on the occasions I have used it it feels like a magic cos it works instantly.
