I just failed my fast...was going for 5days, but gave up at 3days...how to stop the dissapointment?

So i did a 5 days fast previously and i wanted to try for a second time. But today, after 72 hours i felt really tired after i did my 20k steps and couldn t no more to study for my university exams so i ate quite a lot, around 700-800kcal and i will eat for dinner as well around 400-500kcal, so i will eat around 1200kcal today, but after dinner i will start fasting again for 2 days…my question is…will i still have some results(both weight loss and inner cleaning) or is it all my progress lost? Thank you!

Answer

You didn’t fail. You had a successful three day fast and yes, that still counts! Onwards and upwards! And if you’re feeling really tired while fasting don’t forget to make sure you’ve had electrolytes! That helps me almost every time!

Answer

There is no lost progress in fasting. Every fast contributes to a healthier life. Google fasting benefits over time and you will find an awesome chart that shows the benefits of shorter fasts. Even 12-14 hour short fasts do so much to help your body reset. I have done longer fasts in the past but pretty much stick to rolling 42’s instead of longer extended fasts because I found much better progress with that method. Of course every one is different, but you can make huge progress with what you did. 3 days is great. And the number one rule of fasting is to stop of you aren’t feeling good or get too overwhelmed. It’s not a race or a lack of willpower. Most people won’t even attempt a 3 day. That’s awesome and very hard work.

You’ve still made a tremendous amount of progress if you did a 5 day and 72 hr fast. It’s okay to be a bit upset but don’t beat yourself up about this. Exams and 20k is a lot during a fast. You can do alternate day fasts, 18-6, or CICO if it’s too much rn? Also make sure you eat enough on refeed days

Answer

You should first realize you accomplished a goal that most people would not be able to achieve. 3 days is incredible. No need to beat yourself up over that. You can give it another go and hopefully make it a bit longer or reach the full 5 days!

Compared to most people around the world, you have a great head-start in life, believing & doing fasting as young as university age.

Combined with the stress of exams, extended fasting (EF) is definitely very challenging. Like some of us here recommend, you can try EF again later.

Cutting down/ moderating your sugar & carbs intake can actually help improve your studies & exam concentration. All the best!

Answer

That fast is a better accomplisment than 99.9% of your fellow humans. Maybe more. Great job.

If you want to go longer, re-read this thread next time you are there 👍

I see you’ve done longer. You’ve got the will power of a demi God.

Answer

There is no “inner cleaning” that happens with fasting. If you are having a hard time with school or work because of not eating, you are better off doing intermittent fasting imo. You still get all the benefits of fasting if you eat the vast majority of your calories at dinner. If you are only eating 1200kcal a day you will lose weight. Just make sure you don’t have a lot of carbs at once.

Answer

You did an extended fast and responded appropriately to what your body was telling you, that’s a good thing. Getting in 20k steps on top of that is stupendous.

Don’t beat yourself up for breaking a fast, that’s a mindset that can lead to dangerous places. There is no food you can eat that’s worse for you than an eating disorder.

Answer

The first thing you need to do is acknowledge your accomplishment, three days is an accomplishment! Never fall into the habit of being mad at yourself, this is literally a highway to eating disorders, their is no shame in a three day fast, especially if your new. Your body went through a sudden and drastic change, listen to your body, don’t push yourself past your limit or you will hurt yourself.

Congratulations on three days, it took me a long time to complete a three day fast and I have never gone over 5 days because it isn’t right for me. Keep that in mind, one size does not fit all.
