Since some foods rich in non-heme iron (spinach, green salads, nuts, seeds, beetroot, dark chocolate) are also high in oxalates
If one has to combine these foods which are high in oxalates with a food high in calcium for some reason (preventing kidney stones eg),what can he do to also absorb the iron?because calcium inhibits iron absorption
Do we have to “sacrifice” iron to break down oxalates and vice versa?
Cooking greens, blending nuts, roasting seeds all help in reducing oxalate content.
There are low oxalate nuts and seeds too (not sure about their iron content though)
Cooking in cast iron, using some types of Blackstrap molasses, tofu are all great ways to increase iron without worrying about oxalates
