is any kind of tea ok to drink if I put no honey or milk in it?

I’m a huge tea lover and I drink at least 2 cups a day (one in the morning with no stuff in and one in my eating period every day with honey and milk) but I’ve been fasting now with the 16:8 program for almost two weeks and I don’t feel as though I’m getting the same progress I should be getting.

So I’m wondering, could my morning tea be the thing that is breaking the fast and slowing my progress?

Any tips for tea suitable for fasting is super appreciated! I really need that warm cup in the mornings till spring properly starts!

Answer

Plain tea or coffee is fine when fasting if the goal is losing or maintaining weight. Its argued that it affects autophagy since it has calories, but for weightloss, its negligible and totally fine. If you feel you arent progressing as you should be, the plain tea isnt the culprit. What youre eating when you are in your eating window is paramount. If you’re not weighing and logging your food, I would start there. It’s easy to underestimate intake otherwise. If you are already doing that, then it may be time to update your macros. The general consensus is to update them for every 10 lbs you lose. Also, if you started working out recently, changed your workout routine, or have been overdoing it with salt at all, you could be retaining water. Fat cells dump the fat, then fill with water, then eventually dump the water and shrink. This leads to scale stalls sometimes. Additionally, if you’ve been cutting weight for a while now, sometimes shaking things up by doing maintenance for a couple days gets things moving again. And lastly, if you’re female, it could be related to the hormonal changes that happen throughout your cycle. Theres a good week there where the scale can not be trusted.

I think plain tea is fine same as black coffee is fine. This is in debate but personally I’ve been on 18/6 and drink coffee still. I’ve lost about 20pnds in 2 months. Just remember overall IF Is still a process. Give it time. You’re probably doing better than you think. I don’t think I noticed a difference until I was about 5 weeks in. Best of luck!

I drink tea as well, my thoughts are that milk, lemon etc. are additives that are acidic and work to balance the tannins in the tea. I use an eyedropper and add about 6 drops of ACV and it enhances my tea flavor nicely.
