Is it possible to put weight on from fasting?

I am not sure how or if this is even possible, but I just did a 32 hour fast and weighed myself. I had put on weight and it’s not even a small amount, it’s a whole 1.4kg! How is this possible? full 32 hour water fast, is my body just retaining water? But a whole1.4kg? That seems like a large amount for water weight right.

Answer

Yes, your weight can fluctuate by way more then that in way less time then that for all sorts of reasons, like salt, or hormones or a number of other bodily functions making your body hold onto water.
Just part of how the human body works.
Fasting fat loss is rarely visible from before and after weigh ins on short fasts, it usually takes a considerable amount of time with a consistent effort over that time for the fat loss to show itself over the “noise” of fluctuations in water retention.

If you know your “normal” weekly calorie intake, and use fasting to skip calories for a number of days a week, and don’t consume extra calories on feeding days (just eat at the “normal” rate on those days) then the fat loss process will work, even if on any given day the weigh in will show the weight go up.
Also remember, fat weighs a lot less then water, so a small amount of water retention will total obliterate any weight loss from fat loss on the scale, but that doesn’t mean the fat wasn’t lost.

Answer

If your body is a dick to you by retaining too much water (we are assuming is normal, which probably is) switch from weighting yourself to measuring yourself. Once you learn how to do it and start doing it at the same time every day it would be more reliable.

Answer

It’s all a matter of how YOUR body reacts. Now, if you are fasting with more than just plain water, now is the time to give any of those items the boot. Alternately, your body may perceive the fast as stress and held everything (and then some). Make sure you are focusing on de-stressing during your fasting days.

Eat something small, give yourself a mental break, you might find your body flushes out after knowing it is fed.
