Is lactose-free milk or milk alternatives better for you if you are lactose intolerant?

I tried some lactose-free milk (store brand version of Lactaid, same supplier) instead of oat milk a year or two ago, and I was breaking out all over my face by the next morning. I’d been dairy-free for a few years at that point, so I wasn’t surprised to have a reaction to the hormones (or whatever else) in animal milk that isn’t in plant milks.

Every body is different so you may not experience the same effects, if you do try some lactose-free milk I’d start slow and pay attention to any possible negative reactions. It’s a big market, so I’m sure there are still plenty of people that enjoy it with no consequences.

The only difference between Lactaid and normal milk is that they add lactase enzyme to break down the lactose so it’s easier to digest. That’s the same enzyme that your body stops producing leading to lactose intolerance. Besides that, it has all the same nutrients and benefits/drawbacks of normal cow milk, so there’s no reason to spend more on it unless you suffer from lactose intolerance and want to see if it reduces indigestion compared to regular milk.

Yes.
Everyone is intolerant to lactose, but at different levels. For example, i can have upto 500 ml milk without any issues. But after that, my stomach gets gassy. But i can have as much lactose-free milk as i like without any issues. And if you want to grow stronger, lactose-free milk contains the same amount of protein as normal milk and the usual good levels of calcium. Almond milk is pretty expensive in comparison and the protein-profile isn’t as good as that of milk
