I just realize that I’ve been looking at diet and fasting all wrong.
For someone who is able to do 72 hours a week of dry fasting it doesn’t make sense for me to be on a ketogenic diet anymore. The ketogenic diet was what I started with and then I transitioned to water fasting and now I’m doing dry fasting. I noticed that I was losing too much weight and that’s not right. But when I add carbs both simple and complex it makes the fasting easier.
I think that fasting balances everything out. Because I’m cleaning my system every week. But not only that, and I’m not dry fasting for the weight loss benefit. I’m doing it purely for the mental benefits. I have zero interest in weight loss or anything like that.
So as far as I’m concerned eat healthy as you can and having a few slices of cake or some Doritos during the week is not gonna kill you. I’d say I eat healthy 90% of the time. And on top of that I do 2mad with high carb diet. So I am in perpetual ketosis anyway. It doesn’t make any sense for me to have to eat keto on top of that.
I was so disappointed that I couldn’t meet my 72 hours when I switched back to keto. Keto is a tool and we shouldn’t make it something permanent. Yes eat healthy but for someone like me, having a slice of cake at the end of a meal that at least incorporates veggies, white rice and chicken or fish is not going to take numbers of my life. It’s 80+%healthy.
Thanks
Well I do tell people it’s not about being perfect. Still enjoy life too, otherwise what’s the point. However, the only word of caution I make is jumping back and forth with sugar sweets and prolonged fasting because junk food is not native to our body, evolutionarily speaking. It’s good to still break a fast with keto. But yeah some weeks I will let myself indulge in between fasts.
In my opinion, and from my personal experience, these labeled diets are misconceptualized. Also, everyone’s idea of “healthy” is completely different as well. I can almost guarantee that my definition of “healthy” is considered an extreme. “Healthy” to me means the food that I eat contains the cleanest ingredients, and is also of the highest quality. I consider my dietary lifestyle as low carb, with stabled blood glucose levels. While I don’t eat Doritos, cake, or items of that traditional nature, I have found alternatives to satisfy a sweeter treat occasionally. Right now, there are countless options with cleaner ingredients, that don’t impact blood glucose levels.
I don’t like the name of this subreddit due to the misconceptualized label, however, look into r/ketorecipes for terrific ideas if you want to create your own low glycemic treats. Otherwise, you’ll have to research companies who have created their own treats, and are selling them as products. One brand that I can advocate, is Perfect Keto.
I have tested my blood glucose levels with the Keto Mojo device countless times over the past handful of years, and my results have been sound. Take what information helps you, experiment for yourself, and find out what works best in your own experience.
Keto has its place, but recently I’ve found if I stay low carb too long I eventually get kinda stressed with higher cortisol towards the evening(it’s like my body thinks it’s always fasting) I find if I have a little carb via fruit I get relaxed and can sleep a little better. Though still I stay low sugar/carb most days. The only part of your post I just could never do is the Doritos, junk food is just not worth it for me.
I notice keto promotion seems solely about weight loss.
Many overweight or obese people use it permanently. But, from what I’ve read, when it was discovered in the 20s to help epileptic children it was used in cycles.
Even if you are trying to lose weight, keto isn’t the only way, despite how prevalent it is on reddit.
