Just how bad is spoiled milk?

I understand there’s bacteria growing in my milk past expiration but is it really that bad for my gut? I don’t mind the taste or odor, especially if it’s chocolate or skim (less microbe growth). Obviously there’s a point where we hit critical mass but until that point I’m not hurting myself am I?

Answer

If it’s too the point where you’re hungry enough to eat it when you can’t afford better then it’s likely not spoiled enough to make you sick. Additionally, kefir, buttermilk, and yogurt are just spoiled dairy products as well, just slightly different cultures and to a lesser degree. Cheese is spoiled but doesn’t include the bacteria. You’ll be fine, but cooking the milk might improve taste and safety, but will probably add a smell to the kitchen

Answer

I’m not so sure that consuming spoiled milk is bad. There are cultures that regularly consume it although their digestive systems may be adjusted. There’s plenty of “spoiled” food that’s perfectly safe to eat.
