Microcrystalline cellulose as an appetite suppressant

Do you know any studies examining Microcrystalline Cellulose as a weight loss supplement/ appetite suppressant?

Is it safe to use it?

Microcrystalline cellulose is an indigestible, zero calories fibre so there shouldn’t be an issue.

Answer

It’s insoluble fiber so it would probably be less effective than something like psyllium that swells when it absorbs water to a much larger volume. It would likely still work as its an indigestible fiber and can therefore fill you up without being used for energy.More importantly though your probably going about weight loss the wrong way by turning to fiber supplements as an appetite suppressant.By making healthier switches to fiber rich wholefoods like beans, nuts, fruits and veg, wholegrains, etc and adding in some lean animal proteins and healthy fats like evoo or avocado. Balanced minimally refined meals should keep you full and energised for long periods of time without having to battle hunger and are hard to overeat due to usually lower caloric density of most wholefoods. Then, just try adding more activity into your daily routine and you should be able to sustainably lose weight without supplements.
