Sorry if this is a dumb question, I am quite new to fitness and nutrition.
For example the quark I am about to eat has 4.2g of fat, 3.6 grams of carbs and 10.8 grams of protein. Aditionally maybe 1g of vitamins, salt and other micronutrients.
So what are the remaining 80.4 grams of this quark? I guess water is some of it and other (to me) unknown substances which you shit out.
What are those unknown substances if there are any?
I always wonder this when I see that liquor has calories, but no protein and no fat and no carbohydrate. Thanks for asking the question!
Of course, there are things like phytonutrients and vitamins… But I don’t think that’s what you’re asking about.
The answer is essentially water. But within subcategories sometimes you can glean something useful - if it has carbs that aren’t fiber or sugars, for example, you have to wonder what they are. Sometimes they are these newer sugar alcohols, of which some we might not know much about.
We can eat dirt and stuff; we used to eat quite a bit. Some people say try to eat a little more. I don’t think that would list as fiber; but I’m just saying there are things on the border - diatomaceous earth, for example, is often added to food. It is sort of a seashell, I guess I would say.
