What else is in food aside from protein, carbs and fats?

I feel like this may be a really silly question with an obvious answer but I’m stumped.

My yogurt, for example, is 150g: 15g of protein, 0.5g fat and lets say 38g carbohydrates. What makes up the rest of the grams if all food is supposedly fat, protein or carbs??? Please help lol! Thats a lot of grams unaccounted for!

Answer

There are micronutrients (such as vitamin C or iron or potassium) in most foods, but in terms of noticeable contributions to the weight of each item, we’re mostly talking about water. Anything even remotely soft or liquid-y (i.e., not completely dried out or dehydrated) will have a substantial amount of water weight.

Answer

I work at a nutritional label lab. A lot of food is >60% water and I have even seen some broths/ soups being 99% water. Fat counts for 9 calories/gram and carbs and sugar count as 4 calories/gram you can see it on your label if you do the math. There’s also vitamins which make of a very small amount of the weight. There is also minerals which can have be anywhere from 0.5%-10% of the weight
