Started my first longer fast (40 hours)

M, 36, SW: 258lbs | CW: 175lbs | GW: 140lbs

Hey all, this is my first post here, I have been doing intermittent fasting for the last 18 months or so. It has changed my life, I went from 258lbs to 150lbs, and came off of meds for high BP, not prediabetic anymore etc! I am still doing IF to lose a little more weight (GW is 140lbs), but feeling so good and have decided to try longer fasting periods, especially as I put on a bit of weight over Christmas and starting a new medication for mental health.

I have started this weekend my first longer fast; I stopped eating at my normal time of 8pm last night, and hoping to power through until noon tomorrow and eat my usual lunch then.

I have been reading as much as I can here and lurking, but hoping for some advice on what my next 24 hours should look like as it is noon here where I live…I am hydrating regularly, drinking black coffee (caff and decaf), black unsweetened tea etc. I bought recently a pack of the fasting salts, wondering if and when I should plan to use those until noon tomorrow? Anything else I should be doing?

I am feeling good right now and even on normal IF I sometimes go until 2,3pm if I’m feeling ok, but don’t want to get dizzy/feel bad unnecessarily later today etc. Any wisdom you have would be awesome! Excited to try my first longer fast. Thanks!

ETA: Forgot to mention I had a minor stroke 2 years ago, high blood pressure that is now regulated and usually around 120/70 now. I take betablockers and aspirin daily. Just incase I should do anything differently

Answer

I usually will take my salts fairly regularly past 24 hours. I try to have them on hand just in case as well and will increase my usage if I am feeling a bit off. Otherwise, it seems like you are taking your health into your hands, and that is a huge win!
