Teas?

Hi y’all! I’m currently on a 20/4 IF schedule but was thinking about adding some teas into my day. I want to drink a cup of mint tea in the morning, a cup of ginger tea to “break” my fast at 4pm (my window is 4-8) and then a chamomile tea before bed. Apparently, mint tea has 2 calories per 8oz, ginger tea has 19 and chamomile has 0. If I drink the mint tea in the morning, does that negate the fast since I’m consuming 2 calories per cup?

Right now I’m ONLY drinking water when I’m fasting. Tea would be a nice change of pace but I don’t want to screw anything up.

I’m fasting to lose weight, if that matters.

Thanks!

Answer

Unsweetened 2 cal tea isn’t a problem - I incorporate mint tea in my fasting, and it is considered a clean fast. Chamomile would also be considered clean, clean meaning not interrupting autophagy. Ginger is great for your eating window, as you’ve already planned. None of those should hamper your weight loss 😄

Answer

I do the exact same IF schedule as you. I eat keto during 4-8pm with a calorie deficit. 🙂

I enjoy 1 to 2 cups of hot tea during the day, and it has had no impact on my weight loss. I also enjoy a cup of hot tea after dinner, before bed.

A person with no pre-diabetic symptoms, can get away with having a variety of low-calorie drinks during fasts, because their insulin goes back down very fast.

If not so, then I would hold off on that ginger tea for now.

The other two are great regardless in my opinion.
